Indonesian Coal Mining . . .

Major Indonesian Coal Mining Areas

The major coal producing areas in Indonesia are in Sumatra and Kalimantan (on the island of Borneo).  Kalimantan has the largest deposits and most of the large mines are located there.  In Kalimantan there are four major areas: Upper Mahakam River, Sangatta/Bontong, South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.  Sangatta/Bontang area is where the KPC mines are located which are the largest coal mines in Indonesia.  There are also several large mines in South Kalimantan (Adaro and Kideco).  South Kalimantan, along the lower part of the Barito River, is also where most of the smaller mines are located.  The material there usually ranges from 5300 to 6000 GCV.  Further up the Barito River, in Central Kalimantan, the material tends to be of a higher grade (up to 8500 GCV).  This is where BHP is starting up a large new mine.

Sky Minerals operates in all of the major coal producing areas of Indonesia and can access coal of any grade.
