One day Begonia was traveling by public bus around Bali and someone told her about a boy with physical disabilities.  She sought him out and found a very thin and pale little five year old boy.  Wayan never went out of his room and spent his days and nights sitting or lying on his bed. He cannot straighten his legs and cannot walk.  He cannot talk and only emits guttural sounds from his throat.  But he is mentally healthy and very bright and clever.  But he needs more stimulation and attention -  someone to work with him “one oln one”.  He only has one toy and he needs challenges and things to learn.  There is no reason that his mind must become the victim of his body.

We made him a wooden chair and a table to sit down outside of his room so that he can see other children playing, trees, family, chickens and life around him.  His skin is even getting tan now!

He does not have much stability in his body.  We gave him a old wheelchair and the first time that Begonia took him out of his house he was immediately surrounding by 15 kids laughing and trying to push the wheelchair.  The smile on Wayan's face is one of the things that Begonia will never forget.  "It was one of those unique and beautiful moments that makes the work worthwhile", says Begonia.

When Begonia goes to Wayan´s house he is so excited to see her and tries to push the wheelchair and participate in things with the rest of the family.  He likes sitting outside watching his father paint and the other children playing. 

Wayan need toys and educational games to challenge his mind.  He needs to go to school and his family needs money to buy him milk.  We would also like to get a physiotherapist to work with him and adapt a bicycle for exercise.
