Pasadena & Altadena
A Beautiful Place to call Home
Nestled against the beautiful
foothills of the San Gabriel mountains, the sister communities of
Pasadena and Altadena are a unique combination of the old, new,
traditional and contemporary.
Founded
over 120 years ago, Pasadena is most famous for it's New Year Rose
Parade and Rose Bowl feasts. The first Rose Parade was held in 1890.
Pasadena's name comes from a Chippewa
Indian word meaning "Crown of the Valley". In the early
1900's Pasadena's scenery and
climate appealed to the very rich who began
using it as their playground, arriving first as winter visitors and then as
residents who turned Orange Grove Boulevard into Millionaires' Row.
In the 1940's and 50's, during the Golden Era of movies, it was a favorite
get-away for the Hollywood stars.
Through the years Pasadena has
retained it's charm and beauty even though it has grown into a
bustling city of 133,000 that spreads out over 27 square miles. Altadena, it's smaller neighbor to
the north, sits further up in the foothills and has a population of
42,000.
