Dr. David Chapman, 29 May - 20 June 2000

Dr. David Chapman picked up the ball from Dr. Jo (below) and kept up the pace.  David worked in the Field Clinic in Sanur, Kum, near Kuta, and Putulu, outside of Ubud.  He also spend several days doing operations at our Clinic.  He assisted Dr. Jo in a leg amputation and also in an orthopedic surgery with a University veterinarian and Foundation vet, Dr. Komang.

Born an Englishman, David went to the University of Southern California where he received a PhD in Chemistry.  After working for several years as a molecular biologist, he underwent a career change and received his veterinarian degree from Washington State University.

Thanks a million David!

Dr. Joanne Vanderzwan, 15 May - 5 June 2000

Dr Listriani, Dr. "Jo" and Sherry Grant

Dr. Vanderzwan, or Dr. Jo, as she prefers to be called, lives in Perth.  While visiting us she worked in the Field Clinic in the Changu area.  Changu is north of the popular tourist areas of Kuta and Legian and is one of the new areas which we can now serve with our Field Tent Clinic program.  Dr. Jo, assisted by Dr. Chapman, did a leg amputation on a badly deformed puppy named "Tripod".  She worked with us for an amazing three weeks and gets our "endurance" award.

She trained at Murdoch University, spent two years of mixed practice in Oxford, England and now works at a small animal practice in Perth.  Thanks for everything Dr. Jo!!!

Update (June 2002):  Soon after leaving us, Jo decided to drop her veterinary practice and become a film maker.  She went to film school in the Perth area and in now on her first major assignment in Finland.  We have remained good friends with Jo and her wonderful husband Nathan and get together often.  Right now, Jo is on assignment in Finland.

Dr. Stuart Cameron, 11 May 2000

Dr. Cameron only spent one day with us but what a day it was.  He help inaugurate our new Field Clinic and did or assisted with 20 sterilizations.  This still stands as our one day record!!  He also took advantage of the opportunity to train several of the veterinary students from the local university.

Dr. Cameron is a 1968 graduate Massey University and had a mixed practice in Invercargill until he decided to focus on
small animals, and set up his own practice in Dunedin in 1975.
This has slowly grown and now employs 2.5 vets and 3 nurses.

Thank you Stuart.  Hurry back!

Dr. James Thompson - February 2000

James, an Australian, spent a a week us working in our just opened clinic.  During that time he performed several sterilizations and trained interns from the university.  In addition he removed a large tumor from a severely disabled dog.  Thanks James!

Dr. Monica Watts - 13 February to 22 March, 2000

Vet Asst Cok, Drs. Watts, Listriani and Komang

A recent graduate from Sydney University, Dr. Watts was the Foundation's first regular visiting veterinarian.  A trailblazer in more ways then one, she tirelessly worked the streets, beaches and remote villages of Bali, treating dogs for everything from skin parasites to rare tumors.  She performed dozens of operations and was invaluable in getting the foundation's sterilization program working.  She will be giving a lecture titled "Vets in Bali" at Sydney University in April 2000.  Thanks Monica.

Dr. David Griffiths - February 2000

Dr. David Griffiths was our first visiting vet and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.  Dr. Griffiths is a consulting vet for the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA).  During the ten days that he was here, Dr. Griffiths trained nine veterinarians in a minimum evasion surgical sterilization technique.  He also demonstrated the technique for approximately eight students from the veterinary school at the local university.  Over 35 dogs were spayed during his visit.  Thank you David.  Because of you and WSPA, our sterilization program really got going.
