The Dogs

The foundation treats literally hundreds of dogs a month and most disappear back into the streets of Bali.  But a few stand out either because of their spirit or the special nature of their situation.  On these pages we talk about some of these special dogs that have touched our lives and made a lasting impression.

"Tripod"

"Tripod"

This is the story about a very special puppy that came to us dying and with a broken leg.  Click the picture to read Tripod's heartwarming story.

"Balto"

Balto and her three sisters were were found on the beach in Sanur.  When found, she was malnourished, ravished with worms and skin diseases.  In a few weeks she had recovered and was happily running and playing.  Her happy disposition and unusual gray markings made Balto a very special dog.

Unfortunately, a few days after this picture was taken Balto got out of the compound and was hit by a car and died.  But unlike most Bali dogs who meet similar fates, she will be missed.

"Nipper"

Nipper was a special dog to us because she and her sister Alice were our first two rescues back in June 1998.  They were found as very young puppies abandoned to die on the beach in Sanur.  We called her Nipper because she always like to "nip" at peoples' legs and shoes.

It was through Nipper and Alice that we learned of the plight of Bali's dogs and we were moved to form the Foundation with Dr. Listriani.

Nipper lived a happy life with us until her untimely death due to causes unknown in June, 2002.

Thank you Nipper for showing us the way.  We are all indebted to you.
